Talking about the Web Directory, there are some good places for this. One of the greatest moment is webhostingrating.com, where the site presents an assessment of the many categories ranging from web hosting, virtual private servers, dedicated servers, hosting award to the domain naming.
The assessment is included as wordpress web hosting and drupal web hosting. This is one form of a given assessment. There are many factors for consideration to determine whether the poor quality of a website, and each person must have a view different. But among these many, there are some things that are commonly used reference, namely:

1. Download speed
Internet users generally do not feel at home waiting. They do not like to linger just to wait for the emergence of the information accessed from the web. As far as possible we need to optimize web design not to be too heavy to be accessed, even if using a dial-up connection. 8 to 12 seconds is the ideal access speed. Optimize return web components you (image, HTML, JavaScript, CSS) if you have not reached that number.

2. Contents easy to read
As far as possible do not use too small font, and color that contrasts so quick to make the eyes tired. Make your guests comfortable for reading the information you provide, without having to change the font in your browser settings, or even to change Brightness & Contrast on the monitor.

3. Design layout that is consistent
Design from one page to another page must be made consistent to allow visitors to find content you provide. Visitors will get confused if you put the menu on the first page and second position changes. Make them easy to adapt, with a lightweight design and user friendly navigation.

If you’ve noticed above 3 factors, technically you could say the website is ready for publication. Especially if you have a unique web content and quality, could certainly not be in trouble on the search engine in the long term. Assessment of the three factors above we can see that webhostingrating have a good assessment of the quality of the candidate. They do not carelessly give it

Google has apologized to a Chinese authors’ group over its scanning of books by local writers into an online search system, moving to defuse copyright concerns around the project in China.

The Chinese Writers Association posted a copy of the Google statement on its Web site on Sunday. On the same day Erik Hartmann, an Asia-Pacific representative of Google Books, delivered the apology in a news program aired by China’s state broadcaster.

China is one of several countries, including the U.S. and France, where Google’s digital library program has faced legal challenges. The apology comes after the Chinese group demanded that Google compensate local authors whose works the U.S. search giant scanned without their approval.

Google is scanning hundreds of thousands of books, often without prior permission from their rights holders, so they can be searched and previewed on the Google Books service.

Google acknowledged in the statement that it had scanned books by Chinese writers and said the company would no longer do so without local authors’ permission. It also said it hopes to reach a general agreement over resolving the tensions by March and to sign a final agreement in the second quarter.

“Due to different starting notions and different understandings of the copyright law systems in China and the U.S., our behavior has caused discontent among Chinese writers,” the statement said. “Our communication with Chinese authors has not been good enough. Google is willing to apologize to Chinese authors for this behavior.”

Google has held talks with a local copyright protection group over the book service. One Chinese author, Shanghai-based Mian Mian, has brought a copyright infringement lawsuit against Google for scanning her novel Acid Lover and showing portions of it online.

A Google spokeswoman said Google Books complies with U.S. and Chinese law and that the company only shows snippets of copyright books for which it does not have permission from rights holders. Authors and publishers can choose to exclude their works from the service, she said.

There’s no doubt that 2009 was a rough year for startups and established businesses alike, but many are holding out hope that 2010 will be different, especially since venture capitalists seem to be loosening their purse strings. Keep an eye on these five businesses that offer fresh ideas to the Web 2.0 arena.

1. Backtype. The Backtype service lets you find, follow and share comments from across the Web. It indexes comments from millions of blogs and social networks, making them available for search based on a keyword or a URL (especially handy for tracking posts on Twitter). It also lets you “claim your comments”-by inputting your usernames for several websites such as Digg, FriendFeed or Facebook, Backtype then attributes those comments to you on your Backtype profile.

2. Evernote. Evernote, a cloud-based service similar to mindmapping allows you to save notes from meetings, photos, documents and more, then organizes them in a searchable way (or you can do that yourself). Evernote recognizes text in pictures too; you can archive notes from a meeting or keep travel documents handy by snapping a photo of them. It also supports Ritescript-a division of Evernote-which is a handwriting recognition software. (Evernote also closed out 2009 with $10 million in financing.)

3. Kosmix. Enter a keyword into search engine Kosmix and it gathers content from across the Web, displaying information in modules such as a general overview of the keyword, news and blogs, company profiles, images, video, latest tweets, related content, reviews and guides, forums, shopping guides and more. Quite comprehensive.

4. Posterous.Posterous is a publishing platform that lets you post pictures, audio files, links, documents and video-but what differentiates it from other blogging services is that it can be maintained entirely via e-mail, on the go. It also lets you post updates to other sites you belong to, such as Facebook, Twitter and WordPress, so you don’t have to visit those sites individually.

5. Shout’em.Shout’em lets you customize a secure microblogging network where you can share photos, files, links and locations with only the people you want-great for businesses looking for a secure alternative to Twitter. Or, if you prefer, you can synch your account with Twitter and Facebook. Shout’em has also rolled out a mobile client for BlackBerry and iPhone users.

Which Web 2.0 companies are on your horizon this year?

Analysis: Google’s touting its DNS resolution service to speed up Web browsing, but a better alternative is available for free.

Google made much about its just released Google Public DNS, its DNS resolution service for speeding up Web browsing, but there’s a better alternative, also available for free. OpenDNS has had a similar service for years. I’m a long-time OpenDNS user, and can vouch that it’s everything you get from Google Public DNS, and more.

When you type in a URL, your browser needs to contact a DNS server, because Web servers require that you use a numeric IP address, rather than a URL with characters. Your browser sends the URL to the DNS server, the DNS server sends the IP address back to the browser, and the browser uses the IP address to contact the Web site you want to visit. Typically, you use your ISP’s DNS servers to resolve the addresses.

Because Web pages have become increasingly complex over time, visiting a single Web page may require multiple DNS lookups. This can slow down your browsing if the DNS servers you contact are slow.

Google Public DNS and OpenDNS both have many DNS servers all over the world using caching technology to speed up DNS lookups, potentially speeding up your browsing as well.

So why is OpenDNS better than Google Public DNS? It gives you a slew of features missing from Google’s offering. You can, for example, create shortcuts with OpenDNS so that you only need to type in a few characters instead of a whole URL to visit a site — cw for 4ict.com, for example. There’s also a dashboard that lets you do all kinds of things, including blocking individual Web sites. If you’re managing a network, you can also get network usage reports.

There’s certainly nothing wrong with Google Public DNS, and it’s well worth using. But OpenDNS is even better.
